AnecNotes™: The Workplace Addition
What are AnecNotes? Words I write down as opposed to forget. AnecNotes are fodder for the future, fuel for my writing, ideas that can inspire or sometimes offend. I apologize in advance if anyone is insulted by the following:
“You can’t eat like a bird and shit like an elephant.”
Translation: You have to spend money to make money. Try it. It works.
“It’s not worth anything unless it puts your wallet in pain.”
What I tell clients who want something for nothing.
“We all have to play injured.”
What I expect from everyone on the team.
“Bring your lunch bucket.”
Come prepared to work. Come to work prepared.
“There are a billion possibilities. I’m only asking for the one that’s in my head.” Creative Directors want their visions executed exactly as they imagine them.
“No man is completely worthless. He can always serve as a horrible example.” One of my favorite quotes. Source unknown. Don’t be that guy at work.
“If you’re not in the parade, you’re watching it cruise by.” Get involved, take initiative, ask questions and offer ideas. Just please don’t throw rocks at the parade.
“He who travels fastest, travels alone.”
Translation: Hire employees who can work and think on their own.
“What would Wertz do?”
Inspirational phrase used to get the very best performance out of my employees.
It doesn’t always work.
“Don’t waste your day trying to prolong it.”
Manage your time as effectively as possible. It is the product you sell.
“It’s all the same pile of time.”
Stop managing your time and get on with it.
“Let’s drop the tool belt and head home”
Let’s call it a day.
